For over three decades working in professional kitchens, the dream of opening his own restaurant was always present, but it wasn't a dream he had to rush into. The vision was clear: to open only when the time was right, when experience, maturity, and purpose were aligned.
The final spark came when Alex cooked alongside his children and nephew at a special event. That day confirmed something fundamental: he not only had the experience, but he also had the team, the family, and the human foundation to make it a reality. From there began the search for the perfect location, the planning, the tireless work, the financial challenges, and the sacrifices that come with building a business from scratch.

Chef Alex's story is one of struggle, resilience, and overcoming adversity. He arrived in the United States at 18 with the intention of exploring and returning home, never imagining that his path would lead him to build a lifetime in the kitchen. Without the resources for formal culinary education and facing the daily choice between working and eating, he learned through hands-on experience, observing, persevering, and earning his place in demanding kitchens.
For over 36 years of work and more than 25 years as a chef, Alex honed his skills with discipline, humility, and a clear mindset: every challenge was a learning experience. He never settled, always seeking to learn more, to move forward, to grow, and to prove that constant effort pays off.
Beyond the kitchen, Alex is a deeply family-oriented man. He cooked for his children his entire life, even working multiple shifts to provide for them. His family, his nephew, and his team are the driving force behind Bougainvillea. This restaurant isn't just for him: it's a legacy, a living testament to the fact that dreams can indeed be built with honest work and love.
